BID TOOLS: BID SOG SPECIAL NOTICE SENIORITY LIST SHIFT ROSTER QUESTIONS?

SPECIAL NOTICE:

Notice No. 2020–13
Date: September 1, 2020
To: All Personnel
From: Carlos Vargas, Operations Captain
Subject: Seniority Bid

This notice will serve to inform the sworn members of Chandler Fire Department of the upcoming seniority “refresh” bid.  The bid will take place on September 23 and 24, beginning at 0830.  Please make note of this date and time, as every member will be required to bid.

To help facilitate a timely bid process please refer to SOG 2230.008 (Seniority Bid for Open Line Positions) prior to the bid date.  Included in this Special Notice are the following notable items to consider:

Proxy - If a person cannot attend the scheduled bid or be contacted by phone due to previous schedule conflicts, the person can use a proxy to bid for them. The name and contact information of the proxy must be presented to Tyson Bruder and Jeff West via e-mail by 1700, September 22nd.  All bids done by proxy are final.

Plus Medic - Plus Medic positions will be declared by the Operations Chief prior to the bid process.  At the time of bid implementation (2021) we are forecasting a plus 11 FF medic scenario.  Several factors can influence this plus scenario.  A plus medic position is not a guaranteed position for the life of this bid (2 years).

Brush truck 287 – Those that bid station 287 will also be responsible for responding to automatic aid incidents involving wildland/brush fires in Brush truck 287. Members will be supplied with the proper equipment to address these call types.

Utility and Tender – The Utility and Tender will both be reassigned to Station 11. The Engineers that bid these positions will be responsible for the responses of both units (Utility and Tender).

Special Operations – Vacating of Special Operations positions will follow the practices outlined in the Seniority Bid SOG. Opportunities to attend HazMat and TRT schools have been identified as two BLS Firefighters for HazMat school and three members for TRT school, one ALS Captain, one ALS FF and one BLS FF. These individuals have already been identified and will be allowed to bid into the appropriate Special Operations team following the SOG precepts. There are no other spots currently identified for HazMat or TRT schools. Previous members of either the HazMat or TRT team cannot bid back onto the team if they have been away from the team 10 plus years due to the uncertainty of funds being available for future classes.

Paramedic students and recruits – Personnel accepted to Paramedic School will bid as ALS in the bid. Once the bid is complete, the Operations, EMS, and Training Divisions will meet to discuss and determine where paramedic students will be precepted and where recruits will be placed for their probationary rotations. It is anticipated that the start of rotations will align with the seniority bid movements in the 3rd week of January.
BLS Rover Engineers – The decision was made at Steering Committee to continue the practice of allowing up to two Engineer Rover spots to be bid by BLS Engineers (See revised Seniority Bid SOG for details). These BLS Engineers will be paired with the least senior ALS Engineer at a rescue station on the same shift. The BLS Engineer will be the primary rover and the paired ALS Engineer will be available for roving when needed.
